Just two days ago PUBG has appeared on the game preview page of the Xbox store, and it is fun. The whole open-world survival genre right now is booming, and this is definitely helping to further the popularity of the genre. With that being said I do not think is 100% a must buy, and here is why:
Negatives:
- The game is still lagging, and it gets pretty bad at times. I was in a situation where I was cruising on a motorcycle, and then out of nowhere my bike flips and the remainder of my squad died because of it.
- Graphically it needs to be touched upon. Now full discloser, I do not own an Xbox One X, but I have played games that look beautiful on the ole reliable base 500GB Xbox. It just doesn't have graphics that I want to look at hours on end, and small fixes to that would make this more enjoyable.
- The buttons are not always responsive. A simple action like opening a door shouldn't have to be that much effort, and in my experience, it isn't just a "look at the door and click the X button" 100% of the time. I find myself almost dry-humping the door until it just lets me, which to some may sound like a good way to spend an evening, but to someone being shot at those few seconds fumbling with the door are important. This extends to all actions like getting in cars and ejecting from the plane in the beginning as well.
- Lack of diverse areas in the game. They did just release a desert map for PC, and I would hope they eventually do the same for Xbox One because it is just farms, one military base, and a bunch of buildings that look similar otherwise.
- The game costs $30!!! This is literally the same game as Fortnite, which is free people!!!
Now those are the biggest things wrong with the game thus far, and in all fairness, I would like to talk about some of the things I do enjoy about the game:
Positives
- This game is great for playing with friends. This is one of the most important aspects of a game to me because I like playing with 2 or 3 of my closest friends and creating these awesome or funny memories of when we were playing a game. This game definitely has that going for it, big time.
- The customization/in-game clothing items. Now this one is a little bit silly, but I am a man that likes to kill people with my killer fashion sense. The vests, helmets, and backpacks have various levels to them which I thoroughly enjoy because it forces you to always be looking for something better or else it puts you in a weird situation of "what do I need the most?"
- Vehicles, Vehicles, and more Vehicles. Being able to drive in this type of game is great, and forces you as a player to try and find one for yourself or game plan for what happens when you see someone else with a vehicle.
Overall, I would rate the game itself 8/10, but when the price is included, I would rate it 6/10 because FortNite is a really good free alternative that is very similar in most ways. Until the game either drop in price or gets a really good update that fixes most of the stuff I addressed in the negative section, I suggest you play FortNite.
