In a rather crazy turn of events, rumors started breaking out last night as to who will be casted as The Reverse Flash. Will Ferrell (yes, the man that will put his nut sack on your drum set) is currently being rumored to play one of the most crucial characters in the DC universe.
Reverse Flash is, of course, the person that kills young Barry Allen’s mother, which puts Barry on the path of becoming The Flash. He is rather important character in “Flashpoint”, which if you do not know was a series of comics where Barry Allen travels back in time to stop his mother from ever dying which creates an alternate timeline, which is called Flashpoint, and changes the course of history as he knows it. Flashpoint will be getting an Ezra Miller (The Flash in Justice League) adaptation, and whoever is casted as Reverse Flash will be imbedded into the DC franchise for as long as they are within that same continuity.
Will Ferrell is 50 years old, and has appeared in some of the funniest movies I have ever seen, but I don't see him as a person that can play a villain. Now I know some people might say “Hey, wait a minute...he has played a villain before!”, but that was in Megamind and The Lego Movie, so no, he really hasn’t.

So why wouldn’t Farrell be a good fit as Reverse Flash? He is a bit too old to play someone who will be in the DCEU for a time period that may be comparable to Marvel’s timeline. Will’s acting ability is limited to a very specific genre of movies, comedy, thanks to his years on SNL (Saturday Night Live). And that's fine, but not for this specific part.
Now as for why he would be a good fit? The only way I can see Farrell being good for the part is if it was either an animated film where he will voice over The Reverse Flash, or if it is a joke where after Barry messes up the timeline and ends up in a time with a chubby, funny reverse flash.
DC does not have to look for someone with a huge reputation like Will Ferrell to attach to a movie that is already being highly anticipated. The Flash tv series on the CW has had multiple people that have played Reverse Flash, and all of them had a very good interpretation of them. Stick to someone young and maybe even someone that doesn’t have a huge name behind them, leave Will to make another Anchorman.
With all that said, who would I cast as Reverse Flash? Well, for one, Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The man has played Quicksilver and Kickass, so superhero movie experience and he gets bonus points for already have been a speedster.
